My goodness, my life has been blessed.  I have had a wonderful September, how about you?
We had the first meeting of the Millionaire Mindset Club. It was filled with great speakers, Eric Schmidt, Glenda Hamilton, and Sam Meranto, who inspired us to go to the next level. Here I am with MM Club members, Eric and Leslie.
Then I went on a "girls" weekend retreat to Prescott, AZ with four of my friends. You can imagine the stories and hilarious laughter that went on into the wee hours of the morning when five fascinating women get together.
I had a wonderful package in my mailbox this past week! Find out what the package contained in the announcements section.
And I saved the best for last! I am the proud grandmother of identical twin girls, Isa and Annika, born to my son Kelly and daughter-in-law Melissa, on Sept. 26th.
I told you I was blessed, and I am so grateful.

You may be wondering why I am writing this article in the face of predicted recession. I heard a quote the other day that really resonated with me. I want to share it with you.

 Money CAN Buy You Happiness

"There's no group in America that's happier than the wealthy," says Taylor, of the Harrison Group.
At last the age-old saying, "Money can't buy you happiness" is dead! And I am going to be the first one to put flowers on the grave. For as long as I can remember, good-intentioned friends and family have reminded me of this saying.
And I have always contended that Bo Derek had it right when she said, "Whoever said money can't buy happiness simply didn't know where to go shopping."
But seriously, I did some research on the idea that money can't buy you happiness out of my own interest in debunking the obsolete theory for my own satisfaction. Here is a small sample of the results from my research.
I found out that this saying became popular as the result of a study done in 1974, by Richard Easterlin, then an economist at the University of Pennsylvania. In this study Easterlin argued that economic growth didn't necessarily lead to more satisfaction. His theory became known as the Easterlin paradox and was cited in academic journals and made popular by the media.
This theory strengthened the distorted religious dogma being perpetrated for centuries that the "love of money is the root of all evil."
Well, who loves money any way? It's not money that buys you happiness but it's what money can be used for. The love of money causes greed, hoarding, and selfishness, which absolutely does produce evil results. But in reality, money is just a medium of exchange. Money itself is not the problem.
A favorite teacher of mine from the 1920s, Florence Scovel Shinn, says, "Money is God in manifestation; as FREEDOM from want and limitation."
Well the Easterlin paradox, as it is referred to, has at last been dethroned. And it's about time! It came under attack in April, 2008, by two young economists, Betsey Stevenson and Justin Wolfers, from the University of Pennsylvania, as it just so happens. They presented a rebuttal of the paradox in a paper presented at the Brookings Institution in Washington D.C., arguing that money does indeed tend to bring happiness, but it doesn't guarantee it.
Their research findings point out that an explosion of public opinion surveys have been conducted in the 34 years since Easterlin published his findings. Results from the Harrison Group study, found that roughly 70% of millionaires say that money "created" more happiness for them, he says. Higher income also correlates with higher ratings in life satisfaction, according to a new study by economists at the Wharton School of Business.
The theme re-occurring throughout the studies found that it is the freedom that money buys for you that brings you happiness. The freedom to travel the world, to enjoy fine things, to educate your children, to live debt free, and be able to assist in giving out of your abundance to your special causes and charitable projects.
In fact, further research found:
Money CAN buy happiness, when you spend it on someone else. Research teams at the University of British Columbia and Harvard Business School tested this theory on 630 participants. They found that spending as little as $5 a day on someone else significantly boosted an individual's happiness.
At a time when the economy is shifting and families around us are facing economic adjustments, it's good to be reminded of why each one of us should care. It's not just in having the Bentley's, Rolexes, or Monolo Blaniks, but happiness is found in having more than enough to share.
